London, 4th June 2025 – ERS, the UK’s leading specialist motor insurer has today announced a series of leadership changes designed to support the next stage of its growth journey.
Martin Hall has been appointed as Managing Director ERS, taking responsibility for the performance of Lloyd’s Syndicate 218. Hall has played a key role in ERS’ success to date and brings deep market knowledge, strategic clarity, and an unwavering focus on underwriting discipline. Prior to ERS, Hall held senior roles at Direct Line Group and Zurich.
In his expanded role, which is subject to regulatory approval, Hall will report directly to IQUW Group CEO, Peter Bilsby
Replacing Martin as Active Underwriter, Scott Tillbrook has been promoted following his successful leadership of ERS’ Personal Lines Bespoke, Commercial, and Agriculture portfolios, subject to regulatory approval. Scott’s track record of growing profitable niche and specialist classes makes him ideally placed to lead the specialist syndicate’s next phase.
These changes come as ERS continues to outperform the UK motor market, posting underwriting profits in six of the last seven underwriting years.
With over 90% of Lloyd’s motor business, an A+ Lloyd’s rating and a digital-first trading vision via software houses, eTrade portal or directly via APIs, ERS has become the trusted home of specialist motor insurance, providing cover for Retail, Prestige, Agriculture, Commercial, Fleet and Specialist Schemes and Affinity motor risks.
Peter Bilsby, CEO of IQUW Group, under which the specialist motor insurer operates, commented: “I am delighted that Martin and Scott have accepted their new roles. Our motor business has delivered some excellent results in a turbulent market due to our disciplined approach to underwriting. We will continue to provide our brokers with market leading products that support their clients’ unique motor passions and needs.”
Newly appointed ERS Managing Director, Martin Hall added: “I am incredibly proud of the team we’ve built at ERS – a team of underwriting, claims, pricing and distribution experts who live and breathe specialist motor.
As we grow beyond £500m Gross Written Premium, we will stay true to what makes ERS different: An A+ rated specialist motor only and broker only insurer, with an absolute focus on underwriting discipline and a digital-first mindset alongside our commitment to being the best home for specialist and niche motor risks in the UK.”
