Scott Tillbrook, Head of ERS Agriculture and Commercial, shares his highlights and insights from the ERS Presents: Agriculture events

From coming face to face with snakes during a private tour of Dartmoor Zoo, to practicing our swing at Reading Golf Club, myself and our dedicated Agriculture team have almost completed a three-week roadshow around the UK, welcoming our brokers to venues that have the need for the specialist vehicles that ERS has the knowledge to insure.

We have taken to the road to share our latest product news and ensure ERS is meeting the wide-ranging insurance needs of the agricultural, leisure and recreation brokers in the best possible way – and it has certainly been a memorable week! I particularly enjoyed Dartmoor Zoo… I’m not sure there are many people who have presented alongside snakes and rabbits!

These events are a great way for us to engage and network with our brokers on a different level. At each event, we take our brokers through all the latest news from ERS, introducing them to our people, our products and plans for the year.

I’m really proud of the business and what our dedicated teams have built, and our success in Agriculture is a testament to that. Expertise & passion is what makes ERS different. Every insurance company talks about this, but we demonstrate that ours is more than surface deep across all of our specialist products. The teams are just as happy talking about cars and agricultural machinery as they are debating about the impact of Brexit on UK farmers and the UK motor industry. It might all sound a bit geeky, but I think you need to have that level of knowledge and passion to deserve to be trusted with our brokers’ customers.

There are a wide range of risks presented within the Agriculture segment and that requires an expert to really understand what a customer needs and the perennial access to decision makers. Here at ERS we are the masters of our own destiny and the team has the authority to write the largest and most complex business without referral to their capacity provider some 150 miles from the office or without having a panic because of a more difficult feature such as younger drivers, high value equipment or HGV’s PCV’s.

I have to make sure that I create and invest the time to meet with our brokers as we really can only be successful in this space by working together for our customers. This roadshow is a great way to do just that, being able to have deep conversations with our brokers and understand their needs.

Introducing our new Leisure and Recreation product this week is a good example of how ERS has the flexibility and ability to adapt and react quickly to market needs. We saw a need for customers that used agricultural and specialist vehicles that weren’t just based on farms so we created a product for rural businesses that would fit their requirements. This is why for our ERS Presents: Agriculture events, we chose venues that would suit this product perfectly; golf clubs, safaris and zoos!”
