2025 ERS Assets Dan Bennett BL

We sat down with Daniel, our newest member of the Bespoke Personal Motor team, to learn more about his background, his passion for specialist motor, and how he plans to support brokers with more flexibility, more engagement and more opportunities for growth.

Tell us a little about you career in insurance and how you got to ERS?

I started my career broking at a small, family-run firm, working in personal lines as a new business account executive. It’s actually where I first dealt with ERS, placing non-standard motor like Japanese imports, imported vehicles and older drivers. That six-and-a-half-year stint gave me a strong understanding of what brokers need and what customers expect.

From there, I moved to a High-Net-Worth insurer as an underwriting assistant supporting household and motor. I worked across large, complex accounts and supported independent brokers, which really built my technical grounding.

When the pandemic hit, I wanted to push forward into underwriting, so I joined an MGA, looking after a panel of platinum brokers. Then I moved to a large mutual insurer as a Regional Development New Business Underwriter in the bespoke team for the South East. It was primarily household-focused, but deep down I missed motor… I’m a petrol head through and through.

So, why ERS and why this role?

The ambition and clarity of purpose within the Bespoke and Prestige teams stood out immediately. ERS is a motor-only insurer, and that specialism allows for genuine flexibility… we’re encouraged to look at risks individually, collaborate, ask questions and find ways to say yes.

What also struck me was the culture. The team is full of people from different backgrounds, all bringing something unique, and everyone is open, supportive and willing to share knowledge. There’s strong tenure and a genuine feeling that you can learn from anyone here. That’s the sort of environment where you can really build meaningful relationships with brokers and do your best work.

From a broker perspective, what benefits should partners expect as you settle into the role?

I’m excited to contribute to the direction the business is heading. A big part of my focus will be engaging with brokers we haven’t been able to support as consistently as we’d have liked in the past, being more available and providing clearer underwriting appetite.

With the team expanding, we now have more scope to deepen broker relationships and grow profitable accounts together. For brokers, that means faster engagement, more flexibility and more opportunities to place complex risks with us.

On a personal note, I’m really excited to be back full-time in motor underwriting. Getting to work on some of the world’s most prestigious vehicles - from Koenigseggs to Bugattis is a dream - my own favourites are the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the Aston Martin DB5. I’m looking forward to helping brokers tailor cover that truly meets the needs of UHNW and HNW clients with very specific lifestyles and exposures.

Tell us a bit about life away from underwriting

I’ve got two young children - one is five, the other is only eight weeks old… so they keep me busy. Weekends are usually rugby practice, arts and crafts, or Minecraft sessions. We also love going on family walks with our chocolate Labrador, Milly.

Outside of family time, I’m relentless in the gym, I love LEGO (I’ve collected all the Speed Champions sets), I’m an F1 fan supporting McLaren, and I’m a Chelsea supporter too. There’s always something going on!

Any final message for brokers?

It’s an exciting time to join ERS. With the Bespoke Personal Motor team growing and our motor-only expertise behind us, we’ve got the appetite, the capabilities and the ambition to work more closely with brokers and help grow their books. I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead.
